Team Sectionals

2021 Team Wrestling Sectionals
Note - team qualifiers will be determined at the Individual Sectional in 2021.  There will not be separate Team Sectional tournaments.

Team Tourney Results Div 1 | Div 2 | Div 3 (Brackets)

We will use the 8 man wrestle back to second, place six bracket for sectional wrestling to determine the team state qualifier.   Sample Brackets:  Sectional
Note: If two wrestlers have already wrestled they would not wrestle again and the winner of the first/original match will advance. Wrestlers will not compete against each other twice in the same event. This is the same as it has traditionally happened in regionals and sectionals so the concept will not change.

Team state qualifiers will be determined at using the team sectional scores based on the performance of your sectional qualifiers during the sectional meet.  All schools in the sectional have the opportunity to qualify for team state since we are using the sectional team score only and taking the first place team in each sectional in Divisions 2 and 3 and first two placed teams in each sectional in Division 1.

Team Scoring

(1) Place points will be accumulated toward team total as follows:

(a)  16 points to champion.

(b)  12 points to runner-up.

(c)  9 points to third-place wrestler (loser of wrestleback finals).

(d)  7 points to fourth-place wrestler (loser of first wrestleback).

(e)  5 points to fifth-place wrestler.

(f)  3 points to sixth-place wrestler.

(2) Additional points at the sectional level will be scored on the basis of eight man brackets and accumulate as follows:

        (a) Advancement points

1)  Two points in championship flight competition and one point in wrestleback competition.

2)  A wrestler receiving two successive byes will receive advancement points for each if he wins his next match.

3)  Advancement point scoring for byes apply to the wrestleback bracket as well as the championship bracket.

4)  No advancement points are awarded for: Consolation Matches, Championship and final wrestleback matches in sectional, or in a weight class with only one wrestler.

5)  Two points are awarded for each win by a fall, forfeit, default or disqualification.

6)  One point is given for each decision won by 8-14 points.

7)  One and one-half points are awarded for each win by a technical fall (15 points or more).

8)  In an incomplete bracket (anything less than eight) any wrestler receiving a bye will receive four points for his team if he wins his next match (two points for advancement and two points for lost potential pin). If he received two byes before his win, he will receive four points for each bye.

The following Tie-breaking Procedures will be used (Wrestling Season Regulations – Tournament Procedure, p. 61-62):
