2012-13 Board of Control Conducts First Meeting

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Terry Reynolds, district administrator at Pittsville, presided over the first meeting of the 2012-13 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control today.

Advisory Council Non-Public Schools At-Large Special Election

A special election will take place for a non-public school representative on the Advisory Council.  This will be a 3-year term beginning with the October 4, 2012 Advisory Council meeting.  This vacancy is due to the election of Ted Knutson of Aquinas to the Board of Control.

Eligible candidates are administrators, assistant administrators, high school principals or assistant high school principals of member senior high schools.

Candidates must have (1) Department of Public Instruction licensure allowing placement in the eligible set, (2) must be employed in a qualifying position and (3) cannot be members of the teachers’ bargaining unit.

Reminders as the School Year Begins

As the fall season begins with practice, we would like to remind you of several items. Transfer students - always consider all transfer students ineligible until they have been cleared for transfer, code of conduct, and academic eligibility.  Your returning students – check their academic eligibility before competing and have your coaches meet with you again before the first contest to be sure an athlete did not join the team after the initial academic review.  Foreign Exchange students - Be sure to communicate with your guidance counselor and principal to see if you have any foreign exchange students who wish to participate in athletics. Collect Required Documentation Before Practice or Competition. Health and Safety – Have your coaches review the material on the WIAA Health Page.  Performance Enhancing Substances – PES is not limited to just steroids.
