New London Video PSA Wins Contest

A video created and submitted from New London High School is the winner of the third annual WIAA Video Contest, which offers a student’s perspective of the benefits of interscholastic athletics through membership in the WIAA.

To view the video, go to the WIAA YouTube page:  http://youtu.be/pcuDlUKh-9g

Students Bill Pence and Austin Huntley created and produced the video, and Missy Porath was the adviser to the project. The video conveyed the importance of education and athletics working together to form the total educational experience and the role the WIAA has in the high school sports experience. The video specifically conveys a young aspiring athlete transposed into high school athletes experiencing their dreams of playing interscholastic sports.

Videos receiving honorable mention were created by Paul Riediger, Jacob Carlson and Anna Bechly of Luther High School; Alejandro DeAnda and Cody Kesich of Greenfield High School; and  Connor Gosa, Tom Janny, Spencer Ortega, Dan Lato and Will Schultz of Waukesha West High School. Each of the schools receiving honorable mention were previous contest winners.

The videos were judged based on creativity, quality, ability to inspire and a number of other categories. The contest involves interested students in any academic discipline to partner for a multi-media experience detailing the relationship the WIAA has with member schools, their students, their communities and fans of high school athletics.

All member schools were permitted to enter one or more videos in the contest. The winning video and selected honorable mention videos submitted in the correct formats with appropriate and completed consent forms will receive recognition of participation. Correctly formatted videos will be posted on the WIAA’s YouTube site and played at available video display boards at venues of future State Tournaments. In addition, each school receiving honorable mention received a certificate.

The membership of the WIAA oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 506 senior high schools and 71 junior high/middle level schools in its membership. It will sponsor 25 championship tournament series in 2012-13.
