Beginning of a New Year, Everything is Possible

With the promise of every new year comes the buzz of anticipation, expectation and hope. The season of relevance and success is the unspoken dreams of coaches, student-athletes, parents, schools and communities throughout the state.

WIAA Sports Medical Policies and Procedures Updated

The WIAA Sports Medical Advisory Committee has updated the WIAA Medical Policies and Procedures Handbook.  It will be printed and sent to each member school. Topics covered were: Emergency Action Plans, Performance Enhancing Substances, Heat Acclimatization, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and Transgender Student-Athlete participation.

High School Sports Participation Increases Nationwide

Participation in high school sports nationwide increased for the 24th consecutive year in 2012-13 and passed the 7.7 million mark for the first time, according to the annual High School Athletics Participation Survey conducted by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

McGettigan to Fill WIAA Ticket Coordinator/Business Operations Position

Kassie McGettigan has been hired to fill the Ticket Coordinator/Business Operations Assistant position vacancy at the executive office in an announcement made by Executive Director Dave Anderson. She will begin her responsibilities on Aug. 26.

Board of Control Conducts First Meeting of 2013-14

Dean Sanders, district administrator at Lake Mills, presided over the first meeting of the 2013-14 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control today.

Brad Ayer, district administrator at Clear Lake, and Steve Knecht, coordinator of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation in the Kenosha school district were introduced as new Board members for Districts 1 and 7, respectively. In addition, Bill Yingst, the Board of Education president at Durand, attended his first meeting as the appointed representative of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.
