The State Boys Golf Tournament produced quality play on its first day of competition Monday at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona, Wis.
The day was highlighted with a hole-in-one by Isaac Larrabee of Eleva-Strum on the 154-yard, 12th hole.
Arrowhead is the team leader after the first day of competition, shooting a four-player score of 303. Marquette is second a stroke behind at 304. Sheboygan North is third trailing the leader by 10 strokes.
Jed Baranzyk of Bay Port and Piercen Hunt of Arrowhead are the leading individuals following the first day of competition. Each shot an even-par 72. Jake Schroeckenthaler of Monona Grove and Matt Polivka of Muskego are tied for third, one stroke back at 73.
Edgewood is the team leader in Division 2 with a score of 310. The Crusaders have a nine-stroke advantage through the first 18 holes. Lodi is second with a score of 319.
Ben Gilles of Edgewood shot an even-par 72 to lead the individual field in Division 2. Lukas Heckmann of Lakeside Lutheran is in second place with a 73, and Hunter Pipik of New Berlin West and Jacob Michel of Lodi are tied for third. They are three strokes back of the leader.
In Division 3, two-time defending champion St. Mary’s Springs appears poised to win a third straight title. The Ledgers shot a 326 through the first 18 holes, which is 19 strokes ahead of Eleva-Strum with a 345.
Drake Wilcox of Sheboygan Lutheran led the individual competition throughout the first day. He shot birdie and an eagle on his first two holes to grab an early lead. He finished the day with a 1-over-par 73. Doyle Kelly of St. Mary’s Springs is two strokes off the lead with a 75. Ryan Schuelke of Manawa and Tyler Leach of Spring Valley are tied for third, three strokes off the lead.
Play at the 92nd State Boys Golf Tournament resumes Tuesday with play in Divisions 2 and 3 at 7 a.m. at University Ridge Golf Course.
