Verona Wins 2014 Boys State Hockey Championship

In their 5th trip to State, Verona is taking home the gold trophy with a 6-1 victory over Onalaska in the final of the State Boys Hockey Tournament Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis.

Brogan Baker began the scoring for Verona in the first period. In the second period, Verona got a pair of goals from Phillippe Fromberger and one from Charlie Parker. In the third period, it was Liam Schmitt and Grant Smith adding goals.  Fromberger had two assists in the game, and Pat Stevens, Brodie Roehrig, Zach Lanz, Josh Novotny and Zack Ritter each contributed with one assist apiece. 

The lone goal for Onalaska came from Luke Tepp, assisted by Bennett Hutson and Bryce Bingham.  Goalie Alex Jones of Verona recorded eight saves, and Joe Witz had 28 saves for the Hilltoppers.
