Union Grove & Antigo Advance to Division 2 Final

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. – Antigo (27-3) advanced to the championship game in Division 2 with a 3-0 shut out over West De Pere (20-5) in the semifinals Thursday morning at Neuroscience Group Field in Grand Chute, Wis.

The Red Robins scored their first run of the game in the third inning on a fielder’s choice. They plated two runs in the fifth inning after two were out. Cornelius drove in a run on a single to left field and another scored on a costly Phantom error.

Brady Renfro tossed the complete-game shutout. He scattered five hits and struck out seven. He pitched out a jam in the second inning. With runners on second and third, he struck out the next three hitters to end the threat. Cornelius led the Red Robins’ offense with two hits and a pair of runs batted in.

Union Grove (27-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning to propel the Broncos to a 6-1 win over McFarland (20-10) in the other Division 2 semifinal played Thursday morning. TJ Manteufel hit the first of his two doubles in the game to drive in the first run. Luke Hansel followed with another double to drive in Manteufel. Jack Clark hit a sacrifice fly and Michael Jocius singled in a run to cap the scoring in the inning.

The Broncos added a run in second on a throwing error, and one in the fourth on a Clark single. Manteufel led the Broncos’ offense with three hits, and Clark and Jocius each chipped in with a pair of singles.

Luke Hansel was credited with the complete-game victory on the mound, yielding two hits without allowing an earned run. He struck out eight hitters.
