Two Teams and Individuals Crowned State Girls Golf Champions

MADISON, Wis. – Team and Individual Champions in two divisions were crowned on the second day of competition at the State Girls Golf Championships held Tuesday at University Ridge in Verona, Wis.

Divine Savior Holy Angels won the Division 1 State Golf Team Championship for the first time in school history with a four-score, 36-hole total of 641, two strokes ahead of Waunakee at 643.

Senior Izzi Stricker of Waunakee repeated as individual champion in Division 1 with an even-par, 36-hole score of 144. In addition to her two titles, the four-time State qualifier also finished tied for 13th 2020 and 14th in 2021. Sophomore Payton Haugen of Brookfield East was runner-up with a score of 146 after finishing seventh a year ago.

Prescott won the Division 2 State Girls Golf Team Championship for the four consecutive season, finishing with a 4-player score of 704 on 36 holes. Notre Dame was runner-up, three strokes back at 707.

Sophomore Belle Kongshaug of Colfax/Elk Mound was the individual medalist in Division 2 at +13 with a 36-hole total of 157 after finishing runner-up last season. Seniors Payton Schmidt of Jefferson and Ava Pesha of Somerset tied for second on the individual leader board one stroke behind Kongshaug. Schmidt placed fifth last season and runner-up in 2021. Pesha was seventh in 2022 and sixth in 2021.
