Top Seeds Advance to Girls Tennis Semifinals

The second day of the 2015 State Girls Individual Tennis Tournament advanced singles and doubles contenders to the State semifinals.

Top-seeded Emily Luetschwager of Stevens Point remains in title contention for the singles championship in Division 1 with two victories Friday to run her record to 33-0 in advancing to the semifinals. Second-seeded Dao Sysouvanh of Sun Prairie and third-seeded Kiki Risgaard of Neenah also advanced, as did fifth-seeded Katya Mikhailenko of Homestead.

The Division 1 doubles field went scratch as each of the top four seeds advanced to the semifinals. Top-seeded Sara Geschke and Kali Flesch of Arrowhead will battle fourth-seeded Elise Gerard and Annabelle Crowley of Nicolet, while third-seeded Emily Pepperl and Devon Bourget of Eau Claire Memorial squares off against Abbey Webber and Kaisey Skibba of Middleton on the other side of the bracket.

In Division 2, the seeds stayed true as well in the Division 2 singles and doubles brackets. Top-seeded Tallie Piaskowski of Roncalli advanced to play fourth-seeded Emma Sango of Edgewood and second-seeded Claire Czerwonka of Kenosha St. Joseph will play third-seeded Veda Sane of University School with a berth in the State singles final on the line.

Abby Fox and Maddie Molitor of Edgewood are seeded first in the Division 2 doubles field. They advanced to play fourth-seeded Megan Jacobson and Hanna Zevenbergen of Baldwin-Woodville, who remain undefeated at 25-0. The two seed, Riley Strauss and Caroline Taylor of University School, will duel third-seeded Grace Gould and Emilie Mettraux of The Prairie School.

Action begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis., with the singles semifinals scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and the doubles semifinals to start at 9:30 a.m.
