State Girls Soccer Championships Recap

Divine Savior Holy Angels (19-5-2) won the Division 1 championship in a 1-0 victory over D.C. Everest (25-4) Saturday at Time Warner Field at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee. 

The only goal of the game was scored by Maria Kass with an assist from Olivia Wright in the sixth minute.  The Dashers were actually outshot in the game. The Evergreens had 11 shot to the Dashers' seven. Olivia Myzewski made seven saves DSHA and Steph Meuret made three stops for the Evergreens. 

It was the Dashers third State Championship in seven State Tournament appearances. Their other titles came back-to-back in 2008 and 2009. The Evergreens finish runner-up in their first State experience.

Waunakee (24-5) is the Division 2 champion after defeating Waukesha West (22-5), 2-1 in the championship game. Dani Rhodes scored the only goal for Waukesha West. 

Trailing 1-0 throughout most of the game, lightning struck for the Warriors late in the second half. Macie Maulbetsch scored on a penalty kick at the 66:23 mark, and Olivia Zaleskiscore scored the eventual game-winner less than two minutes later at 68:19.

Waukesha West attempted 15 shots, while Waunakee recorded 11.  Olivia Meachum made seven saves for Warriors,  and Jessie Losiniecki prevented four shots from finding the goal for the Wolverines.

It is Waunakee's first State championship in its two appearances, Waukesha West finishes runner-up after earning the silver ball last season in Division 1. 

Catholic Memorial (25-2-1) won its third consecutive championship with a  2-0 win over Mount Horeb. The Crusaders won the Division 2 championship the last two seasons. It is also the third straight year the Vikings have finished runner-up to the Crusaders.  

The Crusaders have not allowed a goal during their run of championships that include of six games in the State Tournament.

Cristina From scored the first goal and only goal the Crusaders would need in the ninth minute of the game with an assist from Mo Burke.  Their second goal was scored by Jo Rolli with an assist from Nicole Piette 13 minutes into the second half.  

Catholic Memorial had a significant advantage in shots, attempting 14 to Mount Horeb's two.  Both teams' goalkeepers had one save apiece.  

The Crusaders have now won seven championships in their 10 State appearances, which ties Whitefish Bay for the most titles won by a program.

Assumption (21-3-1) is the Division 4 champion with a 2-1 victory over New Holstein (18-4-3) in the championship final. 

The first goal of the game in the 35th minute on a shot by New Holstein's Laiken Meyer with an assist from Kelsey Berchem.  The Royals tied the score at 1-1 with a goal from Jasmine Hunn with an assist from Mary Sigler. Sigler would then score what would be the winning goal in the with just under six minutes minutes to play in the game. She Gracie Wendels was credited with an assist on the goal.  

Assumption attempted 20 shots, and New Holstein had 10. New Holstein’s Alicia Kahl made nine saves, and Gena Grundhoffer had five saves for the Royals in goal.

It was the Royals first State title in two tournament appearances, and New Holstein finishes runner-up for the second time (2008) to go with one title (2010).
