State Girls Individual and Doubles Tennis Titles Won

The 48th Annual State Girls Individual Tennis Tournament produced a pair of singles and doubles champions at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis., Saturday.

Top-seeded Bojana Pozder (39-0), a freshman from Racine Case, won the Division 1 singles championship in her first season with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over second-seeded Logan White (30-3), a senior from Divine Savior Holy Angels, in the championship match.

The title gives the Eagles their first singles title in program history. White finishes runner-up in her fourth State tournament experience after placing fifth the last two seasons.

In doubles play, second-seeded Annabelle Crowley and Emma Koppa of Nicolet (29-3) won the Division 1 doubles championship by defeating top-seeded Karsen Dettman and Maddie Clark of Middleton (26-2) 6-3,6-2 after placing fifth a year ago. Crowley also finished runner-up with a different partner in 2015 and 2016. It’s the seventh doubles title won by Nicolet tandems.

Second-seeded Mia Larrain (32-1), a sophomore at Newman Catholic, won the Division 2 singles title with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over top-seeded Olivia Czerwonka of Kenosha St. Joseph (21-1). Larrain won the school’s second singles title. The first was by Grace Larrain in 2013.  It’s the second straight season Czerwonka has finished runner-up.

In Division 2 doubles play, top-seeded Giana Apostoli and Megan Setter of Kenosha St. Joseph (22-0) won the title with a 6-1, 6-0 win over third-seeded Sarah Gesner and Hailey Stoltenberg of The Prairie School (22-7). It’s the second doubles title won by the Lancers, and it’s the second straight doubles title for Setter, who won the title last season with a different partner after placing runner-up in 2016.
