STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Board of Control ratified an agreement with The Appleton Baseball Club, Inc., that extends the use of Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium for the State Spring Baseball Tournament through 2028.
“The WIAA is pleased to continue our relationship with the great people, great ballpark and great hosts for our baseball championships since 1998,” Executive Director Dave Anderson said. “ We look forward to working with Rob Zerjav and the Timber Rattlers organization for the years to come.”
The State Spring Baseball Tournament has called Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium its home since 1998. The tournament, held in the middle of the third week in June annually, has attracted an average attendance of 12,500 the past 11 years. In addition, the 20 years the tournament has been held at Fox Cities Stadium represent the 20 largest attendance marks in the history of the event.
“The Timber Rattlers organization is very proud to host the WIAA State Spring Baseball Tournament, and we are very excited to be able to extend that partnership through 2028,” Timber Rattlers President Rob Zerjav said. “We have enjoyed our relationship with the WIAA and appreciate their desire to keep the tournament right here in the Fox Cities.”
The extension will give Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium the distinction of hosting State spring baseball for the greatest length of time since the tournament’s inception in 1948. Wausau hosted the tournament for 25 years from 1973-1997.
Fox Cities Stadium, built in 1995, seats 5,900 and is owned by the Fox Cities Sports Authority, a non-profit organization in the Fox Cities area. The stadium serves as home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, which was the Class A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners and later became an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009.
The membership of the WIAA oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 512 senior high schools and 43 junior high/middle level schools in its membership.
