SPASH Wins Third Straight Division 1 Title

Stevens Point won its third consecutive Division 1 championship with a convincing 85-56 victory over Arrowhead in the final of the 2017 Boys Basketball State Tournament Saturday night at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis.

 The Panthers never trailed in the game, scoring the game’s first 13 points. The outcome of the game was decided by halftime with the Panthers holding a commanding 28-point lead at 48-20. The Panthers built their largest lead of the game at 32 points with less than two minutes to play in the game.

The Panthers shot 54 percent from the floor for the game, including 62 percent in the second half.  Arrowhead shot 35 percent for the game, but struggled from three-point range by making just 2-of-18 attempts.

Joey Hauser had a game to remember with a game-high 33 points, 21 rebounds and four assists.  Beau Rosenthal and Drew Blair each scored 13 points apiece, and Andrew Erdman chipped in with 11.

 Trevell Cunningham led the Warhawks with 22 points, and Ben Seefeld scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

The Panthers won their sixth State Tournament in their 19th appearance. Arrowhead finishes runner-up in its fourth State experience.
