Ostertag to Retire from Administrative Assistant Role at WIAA

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Candace Ostertag, a sport administrative assistant at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association announced her retirement after more than 14 years with the organization, effective June 6, 2026. 

Ostertag joined the staff in 2012, serving as an assistant to three sport directors, including Deb (Hauser) Dinkel, who retired in 2017; Kate Peterson Abiad from 2017-22; and then Melissa Gehring since August 2022.  

She has assisted in the administration of various sports during her tenure, including basketball, soccer, track & field and volleyball. In addition, she has provided staff support for the Sports Advisory Committee, the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association, the New AD Workshop, licensed officials and conference realignment.

“Candace's dedication to the WIAA and to our member schools has been invaluable,” WIAA Executive Director Stephanie Hauser said. “We congratulate her on an outstanding career and thank her for her immense contributions across the state. Her enthusiasm for education-based athletics will certainly be missed by all.” 

The WIAA, as defined by its Constitution, is a private, voluntary, unincorporated, and nonprofit organization. The membership oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 514 senior high schools and 29 junior high/middle level schools in its membership.
