O'Brien Inducted into Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Molly O’Brien, an administrative assistant with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, was enshrined into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame during the induction ceremony in Wisconsin Dells Saturday, Sept. 24.

O’Brien enters the Hall of Fame in the Player category, which recognizes individuals who have excelled in the sport of basketball in Wisconsin.

She began playing organized basketball in fourth grade, which began a string of success throughout her middle and high school career. She was a four-time, varsity letterwinner at Columbus High School, where she played on three conference championship teams and helped lead two teams that qualified for the WIAA State Tournament, including the State championship in 2002.

O’Brien amassed a number of individual honors and school records during her career with the Cardinals. She was selected to the All-State First Team in 2002 after a Fourth Team selection her junior season and receiving honorable menion recognition in 1999 and 2000. In addition, she was the three-time Capitol Conference Player of the Year from 2000-02.

She graduated as the school’s all-time leader in points scored (1,402), rebounds (970), assists (420) and steals (415).

Following graduation, O’Brien embarked on a successful collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she completed her four-year career ranked fourth on the Panthers’ career list for games played and steals, and fifth in the school’s all-time rebounding list. She earned a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology from UWM in 2007 and master of science degree in Sports Administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2015.

After her organized playing career, she served as an assistant girls basketball coach at Homestead High School from 2009-14 and later became the assistant athletic director at Shorewood High School prior to joining the WIAA staff last March.
