Brown Deer Div. 3 Champs for 2nd Straight Season

Brown Deer (25-4) made it back-to-back titles with a 74-60 win over Xavier (24-4) in the Division 3 championship game.

It appeared early that a second straight title was in jeopardy, as Xavier jumped out to 7-0 lead in the first two minutes. The Falcons responded with a 15-5 run to take its first lead late in the quarter. The defending champions took a double-digit lead late in the first half and led 37-28 at intermission.

The Hawks were able to get within seven points at 42-34 early in the third quarter, but that’s as close as they would get. The Falcons expanded their lead to as many as 22 in the fourth quarter before Xavier scored 10 of the final 12 points when the game had virtually been decided.

Donovan Lucas scored a game-high 21 points for the Falcons. Lewrenzo Byers tossed in 18 points and Taurus Adams II added 16 points with a game-high 14 rebounds. The Hawks were paced by Sam Burkart with 20 points. Matt Kinderman had 13 points, and Zach Simons contributed 10 points. Matt DeYoung led the Hawks on the boards with 13 rebounds.

Xavier finishes runner-up in its second all-time appearance in the tournament.
