Brookfield East Wins 2nd Straight Div. 1 Girls Swim & Dive Title, Wanezek & Tiltmann Win Four Golds



WAUKESHA, Wis. – Brookfield East won its second straight team championship, and Abby Wanezek and Reilly Tiltmann each won four events to highlight the 2020 Division 1 State Girls Swimming & Diving Championships at the Waukesha South High School Natatorium Saturday.

The Spartans won eight of the 12 events to compile 340 points. Arrowhead scored 323 points to finish runner-up for the second straight season, and Muskego placed third with 226 points.

Of Wanezek’s four titles won, three set Division 1 State meet records. She won the 50-yard freestyle in a record time of 22.63. Wanezek also set records in the 200 medley relay with teammates Maggie Wanezek, Lucy Thomas and Tiltmann in a time of 1:38.36, and in the 400 freestyle relay with Maggie Wanezek, Reese Tiltmann and Reilly Tiltmann in a time of 3:20.92. Her win in the 100 freestyle came in a time of 49.48, the second-fastest time in State meet history.

In addition to the two record-breaking relays, Reilly Tiltmann won her third straight 100 backstroke title with a time of 52.14, which is the second-fastest time recorded in the event at State. She also won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.60, which ranks fifth-fastest in State meet history.

In addition to her victory as part of the 200 medley relay, Thomas captured her second straight championship in the 100 breaststroke. She completed the race in 1:00.87, which is the second-fastest time ever recorded in the event at State in Division 1.

Campbell Stoll of Arrowhead was a two-time champion in the meet. She won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:00.60, after finishing runner-up in 2019. She also recorded the fifth-fastest time recorded in a State meet to win the 100 butterfly at 53.99.

Abby Carlson of Waukesha South/Mukwonago claimed the gold medal in the 500 freestyle after finishing runner-up in the event the past two seasons. She completed the distance event in 4:53.61.

Kathryn Kleczka of Divine Savior Holy Angels won the one-meter diving title with an 11-dive score of 423.95 after finishing seventh a year ago.
