Brookfield Central & University School of Milwaukee Earn Boys Team Tennis Titles

MADISON, Wis. – Brookfield Central and University School of Milwaukee captured State Team Boys Tennis Championships Saturday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of UW-Madison.

The top-seeded Lancers finished undefeated in dual-match play this season (26-0). They won the Division 1 team championship with a 5-2 win over second-seeded Middleton (17-5) in the title match. Brookfield Central won two of the four singles matches and all three doubles matches to secure the victory. Noah Weitzer won at #2 singles, and Henry Hyde was victorious at #4 singles.

Jacob Smith and Michael Li won their match at #1 doubles; Viraj Bhagat and Diogo Trevizan took the #2 doubles match; and Sam Lodes and Tyshi Olveda were winners at the #3 doubles position.

The Lancers won their fifth State boys team championship in the program’s 17th team tournament appearance, and Middleton placed second in its 19th time at State.

University School of Milwaukee (13-2), the #1 seed in Division 2, won the championship with a 5-2 victory over third-seeded Altoona (23-2) in the championship match.

The Wildcats scored victories in two of the four singles matches. Oliver Boyd won his match at the #1 position, and Deven Sharma was victorious in his match at the #2 position.

The Wildcats’ tandem of Miles Gourlay and Jack Gilpin, who placed runner-up at last week’s individual State Tournament, won their match at the #1 doubles position. Beckett Stratton and Will Merluzzi played to victory at the #2 position; and Matteo Gaggion and PJ Heiny also contributed to the USM’s sweep of the doubles matches with a triumph at the #3 slot.

University School of Milwaukee has now won 11 State championships in 16 team tournament appearances. Altoona finishes runner-up in its first State experience.
