Brookfield Area Programs Win Boys Tennis Tournaments

MADISON, Wis. – Brookfield East and Brookfield Academy captured State Team Boys Tennis Championships Saturday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of UW-Madison.

The top-seeded Spartans (25-3) won their second consecutive State title with a 7-0 win over third-seeded Neenah (19-3) in the championship match. They won all four of the singles matches, including at the #1 position. Oscar Corwin, who placed sixth in the individual tournament, defeated Solomon Dunsirn, who was the individual champion last week, by scores of 6-1, 6-1.

Brookfield East also swept the doubles matches, including at #1 that featured a rematch of the third-place match at the individual tournament last week. Henry Irwin and Reed Scullen defeated Nolan Kubiak and Khaled Saleh 7-5, 6-4.

The Spartans defeated Notre Dame 7-0 in the quarterfinals and edged Marquette 4-3 in the semifinals to advance to the final. The Rockets beat Eau Claire Memorial 6-1 in the quarterfinals and advanced to the championship match after downing Middleton 4-3 in the semifinals.

Brookfield East wins its third State Team Tennis Championship in its 11th State appearance, and Neenah finishes runner-up in its 19th State appearance.

Last year’s runner-up Brookfield Academy (16-4), the #1 seed in Division 2, won the title with a 4-3 victory over last year’s champion and second-seeded Catholic Memorial (10-8) in the championship match. The Blue Knights won only one of the match’s singles flights. Michael Bouche won his match at the #3 position.

Brookfield Academy won all three doubles matches. The duo of Pranav Gogineni and Vibhu Guda, who finished runner-up at the individual championships last week, won at the #1 position.

The Blue Knights win their first championship after finishing runner-up the past two tournaments, which accounts for their three State appearances. The Crusaders finish runner-up in their third State experience.
