Board of Control Conducts December Meeting

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control approved a fast-track conference realignment recommendation and other action items at its December meeting today.

The Board voted in support of a conference realignment fast-track recommendation to move Milwaukee Pulaski/Carmen South/Carmen Southeast from the Blackbourn Division of the Milwaukee City Conference to the Richardson Division for football in 2026. A second action item passed by the Board commits the Association to a five-year, $10,000 per-year contribution to the WIAA Foundation through 2029-30.

Another Board action item was the approval of 2024-25 independent audit report provided by Hawkins Ash CPAs, as well as the monthly general financial fund statements and reports.

The executive staff provided information to the Board reviewing the Wisconsin Athletic Director Association Conference in November, the fall Tournament Series, continued efforts to recruit and retain licensed sport officials, as well as updates on the Student-Athlete Leadership Team and the Leadership Summit scheduled for Dec. 10, 2025. Staff reports also included an update on the work of the Calendar and Contact Committee on season lengths and game maximums and a discussion reviewing a recent meeting with Team Up for Safe Sports.

The Board was apprised of two potential Constitutional amendments. One amendment under consideration pertains to the powers and duties of the Board of Control. It would remove language that requires all changes to rules and regulation to be passed by the Advisory Council before advancing to the Board. The second amendment consideration would remove coaching contact restrictions for newly hired coaches who have not previously coached a student-athlete in the respective school’s program. Final determination for Constitutional amendments to advance to the Annual Meeting will be decided by the Board of Control at its meeting in March.

In addition, the Board received liaison reports from Paul Manriquez of the Department of Public Instruction, Dan Rossmiller of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and Kyle LeMieux of the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association.

The WIAA, as defined by its Constitution, is a voluntary, private and nonprofit organization. The membership oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 515 senior high schools and 30 junior high/middle level schools in its membership.
