Aquinas, Howards Grove Advance to Div. 4 Final

Aquinas (27-0) pulled away in the second half to remain undefeated with a 56-36 victory over Shiocton (18-9) in the Division 4 semifinals Thursday night at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

The Blugolds took advantage of a 12-2 run late in the first half to lead 26-19 at halftime. It was a lead they would not relinquish. The closest the Chiefs could get in the second half is seven points with under 10 minutes to play in the game. However, the Blugolds erased any comeback hopes by closing out the game with a 12-1 run.

Lexi Donarski led Aquinas with 14 points, and Kyah Steiner and Jessa Peterson tossed in 13 and 10 points, respectively. Shiocton was led by Jordan Elliott with 14 points, and Madi Morack chipped in with 10.

The Blugolds’ defense sparked their offense, scoring 22 points off of 19 Shiocton turnovers. Aquinas also controlled the glass with a 36-27 rebound advantage, including 15 that extended possessions

Aquinas advances to the championship final Saturday in the Blugolds’ first-ever appearance in the State Tournament. Shiocton ends its season with its first State appearance.


Howards Grove (26-1) rallied in the final minutes to post a 44-37 win over Durand in the Division 4 seminfinals Thursday evening at the Resch Center in Green Bay.


The Tigers led the entire first half and 21-20 at intermission. The Panthers took their first lead of the game at the 13:50 point of the second half. They increased their lead to 33-27 with 8:25 remaining in the game and led until the Tigers regained the lead with just 39 seconds to play. 


Olivia Stauss scored to give Howards Grove a 38-37 advantage when she sank a short shot on a drive to the basket and was fouled. She rebounded her missed free throw and scored to lead the Tigers to victory.


Addisyn Gerber led the Tigers with a game-high 13 points. Brittany Schaller at Olivia Stauss contributed with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Ambree Schlosser led the Panthers with 11 points.


Durand found it difficult to find the mark throughout the game. The Tigers’ defense held the Panthers to 30 percent shooting from the floor, including 19 percent on 16 three-point attempts. Howards Grove shot 46 percent for the game.


Howards Grove advances to the finals for the first time in two State appearances. Durand ends its season in the semifinals of their 11th State appearance.
