MILWAUKEE, Wis. ­– Four champions were crowned at the 2019 State Girls Soccer Tournament at KOHLER Engines Stadium at Uihlein Soccer Park Saturday.

Catholic Memorial (25-4-1) won its seventh championship in the last eight year by defeating Edgewood 1-0 in the Division 3 championship game.

The only score of the game came at 34:25 into the first half. Emma Kober knocked in a header just below the crossbar. She rebounded a deflection of a goalkeeper save following a corner kick by Emma Westrick.

The game featured limited opportunities to score. Each team recorded only five shots. Only one of Edgewood’s shots were on goal, that attempt was one of two shots by Jordy Rothwell. Shannon McWilliams recorded the other two shots on goal for Catholic Memorial.

Catholic Memorial goalkeeper Marina Evert, who was credited with the win in goal, made one save, and Elle Meriggioli made a pair of saves for Edgewood.

The title is Catholic Memorial’s membership-leading 11th State championship. The Crusaders have now won Division 3 championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and this season. They have also won Division 2 titles in 2004, 2006 , 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013.

Edgewood (18-3-2) finishes runner-up in its sixth State Tournament appearance.

Oregon (17-0-2) was crowned champion in Division 2 with a 4-1 advantage in a shootout following a 1-1 tie with Whitefish Bay.

The Blue Dukes controlled the tempo with its attack for most of the first half, but their nine shots produced no goals with their five shots on goal.

That changed early in the second half when they scored within the first four minutes of the period at 48:19. Moments after the Blue Dukes missed a golden opportunity to score, Belle Patzer directed a pass from Maggie Starker on the baseline to grab a 1-0 lead at 48:19.

Less than three minutes later, the Panthers tied the game at 1-1 on a free kick by Hannah Rohrer. She drilled a shot from 25 yards out that entered the top right area of the goal at 51:15.

Both teams attempted five shot in the second half, but Whitefish Bay dominated control in both overtime periods with a 10-0 shot advantage, but Panthers’ goalkeeper Melia Moyer stopped the four shot she faced on goal to send the game to a shootout.

Sydney McKee, Emma Halverson, Randey Lewis and Katie Eisele made the Panthers’ first four attempts of the shootout to clinch the championship. Moyer made 10 saves in the game for the Panthers, and Rohrer led the team on the attack with three shots, including two on goal.

Whitefish Bay outshot the Panthers 24-8, including an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal. Starker paced the Blue Dukes with four of her seven shots on goal in the second half after not playing in the first period.

The Panthers win their second State championship in their fifth tourney appearance, and Whitefish Bay (24-1-10 places runner-up in its membership-leading 20th State experience.

Fourth-seeded Muskego (17-4-3) earned its first championship in program history with a 2-1 victory over Divine Savior Holy Angels in the Division 1 title game Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half with neither team mounting much of a threat to score, the Dashers struck first with a goal at 50:58 in the second half. Tess Phillips blasted a shot from 20 yards out on the right side that sailed over the goalkeepers’ outstreched arms and into the goal. Tyler Rose Ayudan was credited with an assist on the play.

Fortunes changed within a matter of minutes. Jackie Jares scored an unassisted goal at 74:17. She charged to recover a loose ball at the left corner of the box to deliver the shot to the top left side of the goal.

Just over a minute later, Muskego scored again with what proved to be the game-winning goal. Heather Blair delivered a nifty cross to Summer Malinauskas on the left side, who redirected the ball past the charging goalkeeper into the net to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.

Muskego, who attempted nine shots in the game, scored on two of its three shots on goal. Maddie Anderson and Katie Wasiak each had two shots. Cailey Radtke was credited with the win in goal, allowing one goal and making three saves.]

The Dashers attempted eight shots in the game with four of them on goal. Sofia Miranda led the team in shots with four, of which two were on goal. Laura Foti allowed two goals and made one save in goal for DSHA.

Muskego wins the title in its sixth State Tournament appearance, and Divine Savior Holy Angels finishes runner-up in its ninth State experience.

The Prairie School (18-3-2), the #1 seed, was crowned champion in Division 4 with a 2-0 triumph over Oostburg in the championship final Saturday evening.

The Hawks’ offensive prowess was evident from the opening kick. They pressed the Lady Dutch for most of the first half and broke the scoreless tie just before halftime at the 42:31 mark. Jill Decker maneuvered to get behind the defense and knock in a shot from the left corner of the goalie box. Maddy Tde earned an assist with a long crossing pass to Decker from the right side.

Decker added her second goal of the game early in the second half to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. She fielded a pass by Emma Fleming that navigated through a group in front of the net and converted the clear shot at the goal.

The Prairie School outshot the Lady Dutch 16-4 in the game, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Cate Peterson led the Hawks in shots attempted with seven, including five on goal. Molly Swihart and Maisie Ten Dolle recorded the only shots on goal for Oostburg, which accounted for the two saves by Hawks’ goalkeeper Maggie Dreifuerst. Skylar Ternes made seven saves for the Lady Dutch.

The Prairie School wins its second State championship in its seventh tourney appearance, and Oostburg (18-2-4) ends the season as runner-up in its third State experience.
