State Boys Golf Championships Completes First Day

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – Three divisions of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Boys Golf Championships concluded the first day of the two-day competition Monday.

Kettle Moraine is the team leader in Division 1 with a four-player, 18-hole score of 302, which is 14-over-par on the par-72 course at Wild Rock Golf Club. Sheboygan North is in second place with a score of 308, and Middleton is third at 311.

Individually, Jacob Beckman of Middleton fired a 4-under-par 68 for the round. He placed tied for 12th in 2019, the last time the championships were held with last year’s meet canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ty Mueller of Homestead finished the first day in second place, two strokes in back of the leader with a 2-under-par 70. Bennett Swavely of Hudson is three strokes back at 71.

Edgewood, the winner of the past three Division 2 team championships, is in position to win its fourth straight title after shooting a four-player score of 320 on the opening day of competition at the Arbor/Lakes Course at Trappers Turn Golf Club. That’s four strokes better than Lakeland, which is second at 324. University School of Milwaukee is third, seven strokes back at 327.

Ty Kretz of Marinette, who placed tied for third in 2019, sits atop the leaderboard in Division 2 with two other challengers for the crown with a round of 75. Ethan Arndt of Edgewood and Trent Meyer of Northwestern also finished at +3 through 18 holes Monday.

Kohler is the team leader in Division 3 with a four-player score of 326 following the first round of competition at the Arbor/Lakes Course at Trappers Turn Golf Club. Durand is in second place, 15 strokes back at 341, and Racine Lutheran is third with a first-day score of 349.

Trey Oswald of Parkview holds a two-stroke lead in the individual competition after the first day with an 18-hole score of 74, which is 2-over-par for the par-72 course. Noah Kirsch of Lancaster is two strokes back of Oswald with a 76, and Noah Gage of Marathon, Nick Higley of Eleva-Strum and Nick Dawson of Durand are in a three-way tie for third at 77.

The second and final day of the State Boys Golf Championships is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at both courses.
