Franklin Co-op, Whitefish Bay Win Fourth Straight Gymnastics Team Titles

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. – A pair of perennial powers won their fourth straight team titles at the 2019 State Gymnastics Championships Friday at the Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln Field House.

The co-op program of Franklin/Muskego/Oak Creek/Whitnall won its fourth straight Division 1 championship with a final team score of 148.2833. It is the program’s eighth championship overall. The Burlington/Badger/Catholic Central/Union Grove/Williams Bay/Wilmot Union co-op finished runner-up with a four-event score of 144.2167, and the Hartford was third with a score of 142.25.

The Franklin Co-op posted the top team scores in three of the four events, including the floor exercise, vault and uneven parallel bars.

In Division 2, Whitefish Bay won the program’s membership-leading 10th championship, which doesn’t include two titles won in a co-op arrangement with Shorewood.  It’s also the fourth straight crown for the Blue Dukes, which score a 145.2 in the combined four events. 

Mount Horeb placed second in the team competition with a score of 141.0833, and West Salem/Aquinas/Bangor was third with a score of 139.4.

The Blue Dukes recorded the best team scores in the balance beam, vault and uneven bars. Mount Horeb posted the best team score in the floor exercise, and Mount Horeb led all teams on the balance beam.

The 49th State Gymnastics Championship resume Saturday with the individual championships competiion. The competitor March-in will begin at 11:15 with the competition to commence at approximately 11:30 a.m. at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.
