Eight Teams Advance to Boys State Soccer Championships

Milwaukee, Wis.  – Eight teams advanced to the championship following two days of semifinal action at the 2019 State Boys Soccer Tournament at KOHLER Engines Stadium at Uihlein Soccer Park.

In Division 1 action, #1 seed Verona shuts out #4 seed Kenosha Tremper 3-0.  Goal credits for Verona go to Elliot Popkewitz, Jack Knight and Gannon Simonett.  Saves for Ben Wajerski of Kenosha Tremper 9 and no saves for Nate Hanson of Verona.  #3 seed Neenah defeats #2 seed Eau Claire Memorial 4-1.  Goals for Neenah came from Thomas Priest (2), Samuel Brazee and an own goal.  Lu Shi Xiong of Eau Claire Memorial was the only scorer for Eau Claire Memorial.  Saves for Ian Bogan of Neenah 3 and for Scott Knowlton of Eau Claire Memorial 2.

It will be the battle of the Brookfield’s in Division 2.  Brookfield East #1 seed defeated #4 seed New Richmond 4-1.  #3 seed Brookfield Central defeated #2 seed Elkhorn Area 2-1.  Brookfield East goals scored by Jack Corbett (2), Faiz Amhed and an own goal.  New Richmond’s goal is credited to Andrew Johnson.  Saves for Carter Melby 4, no saves for Zach Dale of Brookfield East.  Scoring for Brookfield Central came from Marcelo Garay and John Bochenczak.  Luke Schoeneberg scored Elkhorn’s goal.  Saves for Preston Ward of Elkhorn 9 and saves for Brookfield East’s Colin Szymborski 2 and Simon Brown 1.

Top seed McFarland defeated Rice Lake 7-2 and will face #2 seed Shorewood who defeated Seymour 3-1 in Division 3. Leading scorers for McFarland were Ethan Nichols and Zach Nichols with two goals each, Jake Sampson, Grant Newcomer and Jack Bartzen contributed 1 goal apiece.  Goals for Rice Lake came from Louis Larson and Parker Bowman.  Saves for Zach Holmstrom of Rice Lake  7 and for Matt Scutt 2.  Austin Gayle of Shorewood is credited for both of his teams’ goals.  Pace Jefferson scored the lone goal for Seymour.  Saves for Ben Lichtenstein of Shorewood 5 and for Tyler Vandecorput of Shorewood 5.

Division 4 had top seed The Prairie School shutout Lake Mills 8-0 and #2 seed Sturgeon Bay defeated Northland Pines 5-1. Max Yde put 3 in the net for The Prairie School, Jason Frosch had 2 and a goal each from Caden Holum and Cameron McPhee the remaining goal was an own goal.  Saves for Connor Dean of Lake Mills 9 and 4 for Devin Stoltenberg of The Prairie School.
