Altoona & Whitefish Bay Crowned Boys Tennis Chanpions

MADISON, Wis. – Whitefish Bay and Altoona captured State Team Boys Tennis Championships Saturday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of UW–Madison.

The top-seeded Blue Dukes (27-1) won the Division 1 team championship with a 5-2 victory over second-seeded Middleton (22-7) in the title match. Whitefish Bay won two of the four singles matches and all three doubles matches to secure the victory. Grant Schaefer won at #1 singles, and Kenneth Zhang was victorious at the #2 position.

Tyler Emory and Asher Schultz won their match at #1 doubles; Hugo Boyden and Drew Schneider took the #2 doubles match; and Nathan Buchholz and Will Savage were winners at the #3 doubles position.

The Blue Dukes won their seventh State boys team championship and their fifth in seven appearances since the inception of the team tournament format. Middleton placed second in its 17th State Team Tournament appearance.

Altoona (28-0), the #2 seed in Division 2, won the championship with a 5-2 victory over fourth-seeded Edgewood (16-6) in the championship match after finishing runner-up last season.

The Railroaders recorded victories in all four singles matches and one doubles match. Breck Wegner won his match at the #1 position, Sawyer Korb won at #2, Patrick Feagan won at #3, and Jack Brady prevailed at the #4 position. Altoona’s tandem of Jake Stacey and Alex Cataldo won their match at the #2 doubles position.

Altoona won its first State championship in its third appearance in the State Team Tournament. Edgewood finished runner-up in its 18th State Team Tournament appearance.
