2018 State Boys Soccer Tournament Recap

Amery will be playing University School of Milwaukee in the Division 4 championship match after shutting out Kettle Moraine Lutheran 3-0 in the semifinal.  Putting Amery's first goal in the net was Galen Coy in the 17th minute, unassisted.  Amery's second goal came in the 68th minute from Noah Rademaker, unassisted. Coy put another one in the net in the 73rd minute, his 67th goal for the season.  Saves for Mason Helbig of Amery 6 and for Brandon Schrap of Kettle Moraine Lutheran 5.

The first Division 4 semifinal game was between University School of Milwaukee Wildcats and the Sturgeon Bay Clippers.  The Wildcats advance to the championship after defeating the Clippers 4-1. Donovan Jones of University School scores first in the 8th minute, assisted by Jordan Puetz.  In the 17th minute the Wildcats are awarded an own goal. Sturgeon Bay gets on the board in the 30th minute with a goal from Eli Dietzel on a penalty kick. The Wildcats Matias Dermond puts one in the net in the 54th minute, assist from Sam Mackey.  Jones gets his second goal of the game in the 65th minute, unassisted.  Saves for Oscar Polecheck of Sturgeon Bay 5 and for University School's Evan Bolton 3.

Hamilton will be facing Marquette in the Division 1 championship after defeating Green Bay Preble 3-0 in the second Division 1 semifinal game.  Scoring for Hamilton were Zach Wilcox, assist from Bennett Pauls in the 32nd minute, Pauls in the 58th and 78th minutes, assists by Matt Polzer and Alex Polzer respectively.  Saves for Noah Conard of Green Bay Preble 11 and for Hamilton's Grant Frohna 3.  

Day 2 started with the Division 1 semifinal between Marquette University High School and Sun Prairie.  Marquette came out the victor with a 3-0 win.  All three goals were scored in the first period.  The goal coming in the 3rd minute from a header off a corner kick, assist goes to Thomas Bureau.  The other two goals come from Osvaldo Arellano, one in the 6th minute and the other in the 24th minute.  Assist for both go to Miguel Herrera.  Saves for Ryan Traut and Tanner Scherer of Sun Prairie were 4 and 2 respectively.  Saves for Carter Abbott and Alex Grow of Marquette 0.

The final game of the day was the second Division 2 semifinal between the Oregon Panthers and the Holmen Vikings. Oregon advances to the championship by shutting out Holmen 3-0. After an uneventful first period, Oregon came out strong in the second period scoring 3 goals.  The first, in the 51st minute, coming from Carter Hendrickson with an assist by Colin Bjerke. The second goal is credited to Nick Borden in the 53rd minute, unassisted and the third goes to Bjerke in the 68th minute with that assist given to Madison Conduah. Saves for Jackson Lutz of Holmen 7 and for Duncan Morgan and Austin Adams of Oregon 0.

The first game of the Division 2 semifinal has New Berlin Eisenhower advancing to the championship after defeating Cedarburg 1-0. The only score of the game came in the 17th minute and is credited to Matt Prodoehl, unassisted. Saves for Jordan Powell of New Berlin Eisenhower 2 and Ben Gibeau of Cedarburg 0.

Pius XI Catholic will face McFarland in the championship game after defeating Baldwin-Woodville in the second semifinal of the day.  Ivan Cuellar puts the first goal of the game in the net in the 12th minute, assist coming from Ryan Pogodinski.  Less than 20 seconds later, teammate Rey Sprewer adds another goal, assist from Cuellar. Cuellar gets his second goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 28th minute.  Baldwin-Woodville gets on the board with a header goal from Vance Wicker in the 32nd minute, assist credited to Nathan Vrchota.  Pius scores again in the 45th minute from a header off a free kick from Ruben Fendt, assist to Cuellar.  Baldwin-Woodville's Jacek Nickowski scores in the 49th minute, assist from Wicker.  Cuellar gets a hat trick in the 70th minute, unassisted.  DJ Singleton of Baldwin-Woodville scores in the 88th and 90th minute, both unassisted  Nickowski puts the final goal of the game in the net in the 90th minute.  Saves for Alek Gerrits of Baldwin-Woodville 11 and for Nick Smerz of Pius 2.

The first game of the 2018 State Boys Soccer Tournament featured McFarland Spartans and the Plymouth Panthers in the Division 3 semifinals. The Spartans advanced to the championship game with a 2-0 victory over the Panthers. 

Scoring both goals for McFarland was Zach Nichols in the 38th and 89th minutes, both unassisted. Gabe Thull of Plymouth had nine saves, and Matt Schutt of Plymouth had three.
