WIAA's Schulfer Inducted into Wisconsin Gymnastics Hall of Fame

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Sheila Schulfer, an administrative assistant in the WIAA executive office, was enshrined into the Wisconsin High School Gymnastics Association Hall of Fame at the organization’s awards banquet Sunday, April 9.

“I am humbled and honored to be included as an inductee,” Schulfer said. “Working with so many amazing people who are truly passionate about their sport and their student-athletes rubs off.

“Talking with a coach or an athletic director of a school who has qualified for their first trip to State, or the excitement that comes with notifying an official chosen to officiate their first State Tournament never gets old,” she added. “I look forward to the calls and emails I receive from the many friends that I have made in gymnastics over the years, as well as making new friends as we welcome new judges, AD’s, and coaches into this great sport.”

To be eligible for induction into the WHSGA Hall of Fame, an individual must be nominated by a member of the association. Information on each nominee is collected and distributed to the membership of the WHSGA to cast votes on the nominees.

Schulfer began her career at the WIAA following graduation from Mid-State Technical College in 1993. She served as administrative assistant to former Associate Director Karen Kuhn and Assistant Director Marcy Thurwachter, and to current Assistant Director Stephanie Hauser. In addition to her duties in the sport of gymnastics, she has also provided valuable administrative support during her tenure in boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, softball, boys and girls track & field and boys and girls volleyball.

Shelly Kahut-Loomis, former head coach at River Falls, joins Schulfer in the 2017 WHSGA Hall of Fall class that will be featured at the awards banquet at Buffalo Phils in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.

The membership of the WIAA oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 511 senior high schools and 35 junior high/middle level schools in its membership. It sponsors 27 championship tournament series for boys and girls in 2016-17. For more information, please contact the WIAA office at (715) 344-8580.
