Franklin Co-op, Whitefish Bay Win 3rd Straight Gymnastics Team Titles

A pair of perennial powers won their third straight team titles at the 2018 State Gymnastics Championships Friday at the Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln Field House.

The co-op program of Franklin/Muskego/Oak Creek/Whitnall won its third straight Division 1 championship with a final team score of 147.833. It is the program’s seventh championship overall. Arrowhead finished runner-up with a four-event score of 144.4667, and the Burlington/Badger/Catholic Central/Wilmot Co-op was third with a score of 143.0667.

The Franklin Co-op posted the top team scores in three of the four events, including the floor exercise, vault and uneven parallel bars.

In Division 2, Whitefish Bay won the program’s membership-leading ninth championship, which doesn’t include two titles won in a co-op arrangement with Shorewood.  It’s also the third straight crown for the Blue Dukes, which score a 141.7167 in the combined four events. 

River Falls placed second in the team competition for the third consecutive season. The Wildcats finished with a score of 140.55. Mount Horeb was third with a score of 137.1667.

The Blue Dukes recorded the best team scores in both the vault and uneven bars. River Falls posted the best team score in the floor exercise, and Mount Horeb led all teams on the balance beam.

The 48th State Gymnastics Championship resume Saturday with the individual championships competiion. The competitor March-in will begin at 10:45 with the competition to commence at approximately 11:15 a.m. at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.
