Ryan Steffes of New Holstein Wins 3-Point Challenge

Ryan Steffes, a senior from New Holstein, won the 2018 boys 3-Point Challenge held Saturday morning at the Kohl Center in conjunction with the State Boys Basketball Tournament.

Steffes, representing Division 3,  was one of 10 participants in the 3-Point Challenge, which was held for the fourth time. He scored 22 points in the final round to win the contest. Senior Drew Severson of of Eleva-Strum was second with 18 points in the final round.

Steffes scored 23 points in the opening round and in the semifinals. Severson opened with 25 points and followed with a 25 in the semifinals. Junior Blake Pedrin of Howards Grove and sophomore Trey Zastrow of Manitowoc Lutheran also advanced to the semifinals with first-round totals of 20 and 27, respectively. The 27 points by Zastrow set a new Challenge record for a round.

Other participants were Kyle Abatto of Kettle Moraine, Caleb Gracyalny of Clinton, Drew Haffner of Gresham, Sam Kick of Onalaska, Zac Johnson of River Falls and Bennett Laubenstein of De Pere.
