Brown Deer to Play Xavier in Division 3 Title Game

Defending champion Brown Deer (24-4) returns to the Division 3 title game following a 62-50 victory over Prescott (25-2) in the semifinal.

The key stretch in the game came midway through the third quarter. The Falcons led 23-17 at halftime, but the Cardinals trimmed the lead to one at 25-24 at the 6:23 mark. Brown Deer fought off the Prescott comeback with an 8-0 run and built their lead to as many as 18 in the fourth quarter to squelch any chance of a Cardinals’ comeback.

Lewrenzo Byers led the Falcons with 16 points, and Taurus Adams and Zach Baun each contributed 10 points apiece. The Cardinals were led by Charlie Tayson and Owen Hamilton, who each tossed in 14.

Xavier (24-3) overcame a six-point deficit in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter to move on to the championship final with a 70-69 win over East Troy in the Division 3 semifinals.

Trailing 69-64, the Hawks went into foul mode to force the Trojans to secure their lead from the free throw line. Xavier took advantage of misfires down the stretch to give Sam Burkart the opportunity to win the game with four free throws in the final 29 seconds. The Trojans missed all five of their free throws in the fourth quarter, including two front end of bonuses to open the door for the Hawks’ comeback.

Both teams shot at a torrid pace in the first half. East Troy led 38-36 at the break, shooting .565 from the floor and not having turned the ball over. Xavier trailed depite shooting .565 on its shots.

Matt Kinderman led four Hawks in double figures with 20 points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds. Burkart ended up with 14 points. Hunter Plamann scored 13 and Zach Simons added 10 points. The Trojans were led by Will Iloncaie with a game-high 25 points. Joey Ciriacks scored 17 points, Mitchell Connor added 15 and Jacob Remsza contributed 12 points to go with his game-high 12 rebounds.
