Please make sure the following have been submitted to the WIAA office before athletic directors and coaches leave for summer break:
1. Spring sports officials' rankings (need to be completed on RefRanking). Note: Hockey rankings on RefRanking will remain open through June 30, 2014.
2. Spring sports athletic participation forms. These online submittable forms are in the AD Resource Center.
Other reminders:
Coaching Contact
As school releases for the summer, coaching contact should be reviewed. All coaches have five unrestricted school coaching contact which allows the coach to utilize school resources. (Note: Funds kept in school activity accounts are considered school funds.) In the sports of baseball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field and wrestling, unlimited “non-school” coaching contact may used by coaches during the summertime.
Remember, coaching contact may not begin until the last day of school which may have changed due to snow days or cancelled school days. Summer contact is open to any and all interested students and must be voluntary. From the
Rules at a Glance:
Further, coaches may not:
1. Mandate athletes participate in nonschool competition, or determine who may or may not participate in nonschool activity.
2. Require involvement in out-of-season activities as part of the requirements for making a school team, earning a school letter award, etc.
3. Provide incentives such as T-shirts, etc., for participation in the off-season.
Unrestricted school coaching contact ends July 31 (football ends July 26) and unlimited nonschool coaching contact ends the first day of school including fall soccer. For more information:

Camps and Clinics
Students must pay their own expenses, including transportation, to any nonschool (out-of-season) camps, clinics, or specialized training. Schools may pay expenses and provide transportation to similar inseason activities in that sport and during the five unrestricted school coaching contact days in the summer. A student may be reimbursed actual and necessary costs associated with competing. This may include transportation, food, lodging and entry fees, therefore, a nonschool organization could pay for summer league entry fees. But nonschool organizations may not pay for camps/clinics.
Schools and coaches may conduct clinics for 8th grade and below during the summertime where high school varsity and JV coaches may use some or all of their high school athletes as clinicians. This may be done for a maximum of six days during the summer and must conclude no later than July 31. Clinics may run up to the start of school without high school athletes being used as clinicians.
Transfers
Be sure to make contact with your guidance counselors and principals. Ask them to inform you of any new students enrolling at your school in the fall so you may check on their eligibility. All new students should be considered ineligible until you have cleared them to participate. Ask your fall coaches to report any new faces to you before they participate.
Football Approved Site
Schools will not be required to submit football availability and approved sites. But schools will be asked to update the current lists posted. We will need accurate level four availability for neutral sites.
Fall Acclimatization
If school resources are used for the five football unrestricted school coaching contact days during the summer, the football acclimatization must be followed. The first two days are limited to helmets only and the last three days may include helmets and shoulder pads. The limited hours and two-a-days also apply with the recovery period required at two hours or before.
Football coaches and athletic directors should familiarize themselves with the acclimatization plan for fall practices.
Please review all of the articles in the WIAA Bulletin and ask your coaches to review the material as well. The Rules at a Glance is a great resource to make available to all coaches before they leave for the summer. Rules at a Glance (http://www.wiaawi.org/Portals/0/PDF/Eligibility/WIAARules.pdf)
