Play at the Plate - Interference? Obstruction?

Q:  With runners on 1st and 2nd and 2 outs the batter hit a long flyball over the left fielders head.  The runner on 2nd did not go right away but the runner on first did. The lead runner was ahead of the trailing runner by about 5 steps when rounding third.  The relay throw came into the plate on a hop and the catcher was bumped by the lead runner, allowing the ball to get by and roll to the screen, resulting in both runs scoring.  There was no malicious contact at all and I believe the first runner was going to clearly beat the throw, but the second runner would have been clearly out if the ball was caught and the tag applied.  The umpire ruled that no one had to slide and that since the contact wasn't intentional then both runs were allowed to score.  I thought that the contact by the first runner should have been deemed interference and that runner called out, resulting in neither run counting since that would be the third out.

A: Umpire judgement.  It sounds like incidental contact where neither the runner nor the catcher is guilty of Obstruction or Interference.
