Grafton Wins Division 2 Girls Swim Title

Grafton won the Division 2 State Girls Swimming and Diving team championship at the UW Natatorium Friday.

The Bulldogs scored 286 point to win their third State title and its first since they won back-to-back crowns in 2004 and 2005. DeForest finished second with 202 points, and defending champion Shorewood was third with 188 points.

Junior Samantha Senczyszyn and freshman Autumn Haebig led Grafton to the team title. They both won four events including the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays. Senczyszyn won both the 50 and 100 freestyles, and Haebig won the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle. Her time of 55.81 in the butterfly set a Division 2 State record.

Senior Bridgette Alexander captured the gold in the 100 backstroke for the second time with a time of 56.21.

Junior Rachel Munson of Shorewood also had a brilliant performance as a three-time champion, winning both the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke in record fashion with times of 2:03.00 and 1:01.13, respectively. She on the record-setting 200 medley relay that finished in a time of 1:46.22.  Senior Kristin Malone swam the anchor leg of that relay and also won her second straight title in the 200 freestyle for the Greyhounds.

Freshman Ginger Lingard of Edgewood won the diving completion with a score of 451.10, outscoring  junior teammate Gina Jacobson, who has now finished runner-up in each of the past two seasons.
