Semifinals for the 13th Girls Hockey State Championship got off to a great start with two exciting overtime games.
In the first game of the series it was the Green Bay East Co-op coming out on top with a 2-1 victory over the D.C. Everest Co-op. Courtney Wittig scored the first goal of the game and the game winning goal less then 2 minutes into the overtime period. Assists came from Johanna Cano and Elizabeth Bauer. D.C. Everest's goal was credited to Savannah Felch and the assist came from Katelynn Schilli. Green Bay East goalie Lindsey Strainis had 17 saves and her opponent Lisa Fowle had 16 saves.
Onalaska came back from a 3-goal deficit in the third period to send the second game of the day into overtime. River Falls' Maddie Rowe had two goals, one in the first period and one in the second period. Teammate Andrea Eliason had the final goal for River Falls in the 11th minute of the second period. Adding assists to their records for River Falls are Natalie Gabbert, Andrea Eliason and Lindsay Veenenda. It was all Onalaska's game in the third period with goals from Theresa Knutson, Jacyn Reeves and Chazlyn Anderson. Assists coming from Knutson (2), Jamie Weilandt and Jacyn Reeves. Five minutes into the overtime period Anderson assisted by Knutson scored the winning goal for Onalaska. Carlie Christensen, River Falls had 42 saves and Jeanalyn Schindler,Onalaska had 23 saves.
