The second day of the State Boys Golf Tournament produced team and individual champions in three divisions Tuesday at the University Ridge Golf Course in Verona, Wis.
St. Mary’s Springs won its third consecutive team championship Division 3. The Ledgers shot a four-player, 36-hole score of 648, which was 27 strokes better than runner-up Eleva-Strum with a score of 675.
Mathew Higley of Eleva-Strum came from behind to win medalist honors in Division 3 with a birdie on the final hole to shoot a six-over-par 150. Drake Wilcox of Sheboygan Lutheran led the individual competition throughout the tournament until Higley recorded the go-ahead birdie. 8Wilcox finished runner-up with a score 151.
Arrowhead captured its eighth State team championship and its second in the last three seasons. The Warhawks posted a score of 602, which was four fewer than 2016 champion Marquette with 606. Piercen Hunt of Arrowhead shot a 69 on the second day to win medalist honors with a 3-under-par 141. Jed Baranzyk of Bay Port, who was tied with Hunt for the lead heading into Day 2, finished second with a score of 146.
Edgewood won the Division 2 team title with a score of 623. It’s the Crusaders’ third State championship after winning back-to-back crowns in 2009-10. Lodi finished in second place with a score of 645.
Hunter Pipik of New Berlin West fired a 67 on the second round of play to move up from fifth place after the first day to win the Division 2 individual championship. He shot a 3-under-par 141 for the tournament. Ben Gilles of Edgewood, who began the second day as the leader, finished second with a score on 147.
