Homestead, Catholic Memorial Earn Team Tennis Titles

MADISON, Wis. – Homestead and Catholic Memorial captured titles at the 26th Annual State Girls Team Tennis Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Saturday.

Homestead (22-2) won the Division 1 championship for the fourth consecutive year with a 4-3 victory over Muskego (22-2). The Highlanders won a pair of singles matches and two doubles  flights.

Natalie Yang won her match at the #1 singles position following her third-place individual finish last week. Tess Lalonde also contributed with a win at #4 singles. Ellie Sprinkmann and Bridget Brown won their doubles match at the #2 flight after placing fifth at the individual championships last week. Ashley Chavin and Jillian Diamond added a win at their #3 doubles match.

The Warriors won a pair of singles matches, including Michelle Pan at #2 and Christina Pan at #3. Lauren Sobieski and Maddie Toboyek won at #1 doubles over Sasha Shapsis and Kate Wade, to flip the result of last week’s third-place match.

It is the ninth State crown won by the Highlanders in 13 State team tournament appearances. The Warriors finish runner-up in their first-ever team tournament appearance.

Match Details

Catholic Memorial (14-7) swept the doubles competition to propel the Crusaders to the championship in Division 2 with a 5-2 triumph over Kohler (22-3).

Lauren Carson was victorious in the #1 singles match after placing third last week at the individual championships. The Crusaders also got a singles win by Claire Pawlak at the #3 position. Rylee Teuteberg and Alex Sturm won their #1 doubles match after placing fourth at the individual championships last week. Courtney Sturm and Megan Prahl added a victory at the #2 doubles flight, and Reagan Rebholz and Mia Rossi chipped in with a win at #3 doubles.

The Blue Bombers’ two victories in the match came at #2 singles with Emily Dorow and at #3 with Jeslyn Singson.

The Crusaders win their first title in their second State appearance, finishing runner-up last season in their initial experience. Kohler places runner-up in its third State appearance.
