Czerwonka, Luetschwager Repeat as Girls Tennis Singles Champs

Two singles teams and two doubles teams captured championships at the 2016 State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament Saturday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

Emily Luetschwager of Stevens Point successfully defended her title with a 6-1, 6-0 win over second-seeded Isabelle Lee of Bay Port in the championship final. She is the 17th player to win two consecutive individual titles. Luetschwager also finished sixth in 2014 and fifth in 2013. She has not lost a match over the last two seasons, finishing 35-0 last season and boasting a 35-0 record this season.

Sophomore Emma Corwin of Brookfield East finished third by defeating Andie Weise of Homestead with a 6-4, 7-5 victory in the third-place match. 

Second-seeded Christina Price and Kiki Risgaard of Neenah ran their record to 28-2 in winning the Division 1 doubles title with a 6-3, 6-0 win over fourth-seeded Elise Gerard and Annabelle Crowley of Nicolet. The top-seeded duo of Frankie La Londe and Sasha Shapsis of Homestead finished third with a 7-5. 6-4 win over third-seeded Emily Pepperl and Devon Bourget of Eau Claire Memorial. 

Senior Claire Czerwonka of Kenosha St. Joseph won the Division 2 singles title for the third straight year, becoming just the seventh player to accomplish the feat. She defeated second-seeded Riley Strauss of University School by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Czerwonka won the title this season to improve her record to 32-0. Emma Sanko of Edgewood placed third with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Laura Lorrain of Newman Catholic.

The top-seeded tandem of Abby Fox and Maddie Molitor of Edgewood won the Division 2 doubles crown with a 6-2, 6-1 win over second-seeded Megan Setter and Kaitlyn Kalinka of Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic to improve their record to 30-3. Fox finished sixth in 2014 and advanced to the quarterfinals in 2013 with different partners. Molitor transitioned from singles last season after finishing fourth in 2014 and qualifying her freshman season in 2013. The third-seeded team of Catherine Raster and Kate Mrochinski of Catholic Memorial captured third place with a 7-5, 6-3 win over the unseeded duo of Mackenzie Lindow and Erin Rice of East Troy.
