2012 WIAA Division 1 State Girl's Team Tennis--The Field

Four-time defending champion Homestead is making its eighth tournament appearance and its fifth in a row. The Highlanders have also recorded back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2002-03.

Nicolet is making its ninth appearance overall since the dual meet format was established and its third in the last four years. The Knights won six team tournament championships, including three straight on two different occasions, from 1994-96 and from 1998-2008. Including the pre-team tournament era, they have been crowned team champions a membership-leading 17 times.

Green Bay Southwest will be appearing in the tournament for the 18th time, the most of any member school since the dual-match format began. The Fighting Trojans won the Division 1 title in 1997 and finished runner-up in 2010.

Eau Claire Memorial is making its third straight appearance and its 14th overall. The Old Abes have finished runner-up four times (1998, 1999, 2001, 2004).

Neenah is making its 10th overall appearance and its first since 2007. The Rockets best outcome in the State Team Tournament came with a runner-up finish in 2000. They also finished runner-up on two other occasions (1983, 1986) prior to the dual-match format.

Divine Savior Holy Angels is making its fourth consecutive appearance and its sixth overall. The Dashers have won a pair of State titles. The first came in 2001 and then again in 2004. Middleton has qualified for the fifth time and for the third straight season.

Badger qualifies for State for the first time.  Cricket Gelderman (21-2) is their #1 singles player while Joanie Williams and Andrea Chironis (15-2) lead their doubles teams.

Middleton vs. Homestead

Green Bay Southwest vs. Badger

Quarterfinal play begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 19 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of UW-Madison.

Teams Compete for State Girls Tennis Titles

THE MEET:  The 19th Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Team Tennis Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20. The meet takes place at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison, Wis. Action will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday and will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday. Admission is $6 for adults and students.

Konon, Lococo Defend Girls Tennis Titles

op-seeded Elizabeth Konon of Homestead successfully defended her 2011 Division 1 singles crown by defeating Lea Krajcovicova of Milton in the championship match. Konon overpowered Krajcovicova with a two-set victory 6-2, 6-0.  She concludes her undefeated season at 34-0 after going 37-0 en route to the title last year. She finished third at State in 2010.

Sophia Lococo and Anna Kreynin won the State Division 1 doubles championship.  They breezed to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Justine Daane and Sammi Pedersen of Green Bay Southwest.  It was Lococo’s second consecutive doubles title, winning the 2011 title with Carly Peck. Lococo and Kreynin finished their banner year undefeated at 34-0.

Fourth-seeded freshman Aly Pollack of the University School  captured the Division 2 singles crown by downing teammate Maddy Ecker in the title match 6-0, 6-1.

Lauren Keller and Morgan Molitor of Edgewood won the Division 2 doubles championship with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over top-seeded Abby Halla and Tallie Piaskowski of Roncalli.  The Edgewood tandem complete their season 29-3. They came into the tournament as the #2 seed.

Individual, Doubles Teams Vie For Girls Tennis Titles

The 42nd Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Individual Tennis Tournament will be held Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 11-13. The meet takes place at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison, Wis. Action will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday and at 8:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $6 for adults and students.

Heat Awareness During Activity

Heatstroke and heat exhaustion is preventable if the proper precautions are taken.  Have water available at all times and to allow the athlete and officials to drink water whenever he/she needs it. 

Reminders as the School Year Begins

As the fall season begins with practice, we would like to remind you of several items. Transfer students - always consider all transfer students ineligible until they have been cleared for transfer, code of conduct, and academic eligibility.  Your returning students – check their academic eligibility before competing and have your coaches meet with you again before the first contest to be sure an athlete did not join the team after the initial academic review.  Foreign Exchange students - Be sure to communicate with your guidance counselor and principal to see if you have any foreign exchange students who wish to participate in athletics. Collect Required Documentation Before Practice or Competition. Health and Safety – Have your coaches review the material on the WIAA Health Page.  Performance Enhancing Substances – PES is not limited to just steroids.  

More Rules Videos Available

The soccer, cross country and volleyball rules videos are now posted.  Coaches and officials are encouraged to access the rules videos and exams and begin to complete this task prior to the start of fall practices.

In order to access the videos and exams, an individual must login to the website.  To login, click the gray LOGIN box in the upper righthand corner of the website.  Your email address will be your USERNAME.  If you don't know your password, simply click RETRIEVE PASSWORD.  If you don't get an email with that login information within 10 minutes, please click on one of the following links to send us a brief email requesting the password.

Rules Videos Available

The football, swim/dive, tennis and golf rules videos are now available.  Coaches and officials should login and access the videos under either the SCHOOLS TAB or OFFICIALS TAB on the menu bar.

Following the completion of the video, coaches are asked to print the certificate as proof of completing the exam and give a copy of the certificate to their athletic director.

Soccer, volleyball, and cross country videos will be available August 1.

Fall Sport Exams - Available

The fall sport exams are now available for officials and coaches to complete.  Please look under the SCHOOLS tab or OFFICIALS tab in the red ribbon of the menu bar at the top of the website.  You will need to be logged in as a coach or official to access the exams.
