Welcome to the WIAA Officials Portal

This is your central hub for the essential resources and requirements needed to facilitate safe, fair, and educational athletic competitions. Select a topic below to find relevant policies, dates, and resources.

Accept the Challenge

The challenge of officiating can provide some great personal rewards. As an official you must make instantaneous decisions, resolve conflicts and deal with stress and pressure. You are in a position to be a positive role model around children and young adults.

Sports officials must be able to bring control to chaos; understand fairness; promote safety and encourage good sportsmanship. A sports official must have the positive characteristics of a police officer, lawyer, judge, accountant, reporter, athlete and diplomat. If you are ready to start enjoying officiating, contact the WIAA office at [email protected] or Call Us: (715) 344-8580.

Treat Officiating Like a Business

Approach your officiating like a business because it is. You are an independent contractor and as such you have responsibilities and obligations. It’s no different than, say, a school that hires an independent contractor to paint the gym. If the painter doesn’t handle things professionally, the painter is not re-hired for another project.

Commissioners respect those that handle the delicate art of accepting and turning back games honestly and professionally. Commissioners often talk to each other and even interact with the college assignors. We want you to succeed as an official and want you to achieve any officiating goals you have. Help your officiating business by taking care of things the right way.

Entering Schedule

A few reminders for officials when entering varsity schedules into your profile information:

  1. Only enter varsity schedules (non-varsity events cannot be entered).
  2. Scheduled events should be entered before the contest takes place so that coaches are able to rank you on a timely basis. Games cannot be entered once the season is over.
  3. In a multi-school event, do not guess what teams are participating based on prior participants.  If you do not know all the teams at the time you receive your contract, you can still enter the event but please go back in and add the participating teams within 12 hours after the event.

W-9 Forms Required by Officials

Officials are required to have on file a W9 form with all schools they are contracted to officiate at.  It’s the law.  When asked to complete this form please comply with the request of the school business office.  If you do not comply, payment may be withheld or delayed.  In discussions WIAA Executive Director Dave Anderson has had with Mr. Woody Wiedenhoeft, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials, Mr. Wiedenhoeft stated “the official is breaking the law” by not submitting a W9 upon request.
