Wittenberg-Birnamwood @ Stratford

We left with considerable enthusiasm regarding WIAA Football, motivated by the exceptional performance demonstrated by both participating teams throughout the contest. Throughout my twenty years of officiating experience, I have seldom witnessed two teams compete with such intensity while simultaneously exhibiting mutual respect and sportsmanship toward one another and the officiating crew. During our captains meeting, we emphasized the importance of team leadership and establishing a positive example, and all captains fulfilled this responsibility successfully. This was particularly evident in the performance of Wittenberg/Birnamwood's quarterback, #1 Bo Davis. When the team faced adversity and players experienced frustration during the second half, I observed Bo consistently providing encouragement to teammates who executed incorrect routes or failed to execute blocks, reminding them to forget the last play and move forward and focus on the next play. He maintained an unwavering commitment to the principle that football is a team sport rather than a sport of individuals. He unified his team and exemplified the qualities that distinguish authentic leaders. This conduct extended beyond his interactions with teammates. On multiple occasions following a tackle, one would observe him extending assistance to the opposing player who had brought him down, helping them off the ground or offering an encouraging pat on their back. Throughout my two decades of officiating experience, I have never encountered a player as authentically genuine as this young man.
