Boys Divisions 1 and 4 State Soccer - Day 1 Action

DIVISION 1
The 2016 State Boys Soccer Championship started with a great Division 1 matchup between Green Bay Preble and Middleton. Drake Vandermause of Middleton scored the first goal of the game in the 51st minute with the assist going to Bradan Allen. The Hornets of Green Bay Preble answered with a goal of their own in the 60th minute on a header from Ben Weltzien, assist given to Alex Hummel. After regulation play the game was tied 1-1. In the 99th minute Cameron Bosacki of Preble scored the game winning goal off a corner kick. Saves for Connor VanderLinden of Green Bay Preble 10 and for Brendon Martin of Middleton 6. Green Bay Preble advances to the championship in their 9th trip to State.
The second semifinal in Division 1 has Marquette University High School advancing to the championship with a 3-0 win over Brookfield Central. Marquette’s 1st goal came in the 27th minute from Joel Migliaccio, assisted by Sam Holton. Nicholas Cheung scores the Hilltoppers 2nd goal in the 48th minute, assisted by CJ Keyes. The final score of the game is an unassisted goal in the 54th minute from Marquette’s Thomas Bruneau. Saves for Michael Windsor of Brookfield Central 7 and for Joe Lochem of Marquette 5. This is Marquette’s 16th trip to State with their most recent title coming in 2015.
DIVISION 4
Division 4 semifinal action has Racine St. Catherine’s Angels advancing to championship Saturday in a 4-1 win over the Phillips Loggers. The Angels first goal came in the 4th minute from Paul Serratos with the assist credited to Brandon Stulo. The Angels scored again in the 10th minute by Tyler Beyer, assist from Andrew Villarreal. Phillips put their first goal on the board in the 11th minute with a goal coming from Cade Rose and assisted by Jed Miller. Racine St. Catherine’s Villarreal puts two more unassisted goals on the board in the 50th and 88th minutes. Alberto Galvan of Racine St. Catherine’s and Willie Reukauf of Phillips both had four saves. This is the Angels 5th trip to the state championships. Their most recent trip was in 2015 where they lost in the semifinal.
The second semifinal game in Division 4 was between Winnebago Lutheran and Sheboygan County Christian/Area Lutheran. Winnebago Lutheran’s Luke Meihack scores in the 33rd minute. In the 43rd minute it’s Mathias Otten assisted by Devin Madon to light up the score board for Sheboygan County Christian/Area Lutheran. Kyle Narance scores Winnebago Lutheran’s game winning goal in the 53rd minute off a corner kick. Winnebago Lutheran wins 2-1. Four saves for Nick Paul of Winnebago Lutheran and 3 saves for Nick Falconer of Sheboygan County Christian/Area Lutheran. This is Winnebago Lutheran’s 5th trip to state. Their most recent trip was in 2012 when they lost in the semifinal.
