The WIAA joins in the efforts of the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to help prevent opioid abuse by assisting in the promotion of Dose Of Reality Week April 22-29. We continue to collaborate with administrators, athletic directors, coaches, parents and students to educate on the dangers of prescription painkillers, the warning signs of abuse, and other, safer pain relief alternatives.

As a membership focused on the safety and well-being of students and athletes, we are tasked with continuing to educate and bring awareness to the life-threatening realities and dangers attributed to prescription drug abuse. The result will save countless teens’ lives and community tragedies.

Dose Of Reality Week offers an opportunity for youth, parents, coaches, educators and everyone in Wisconsin to learn more about the dangers and prevention of prescription painkiller abuse and addiction.

Dose Of Reality Week also leads up to and includes Wisconsin’s Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28th.To find a location nearest you, click here.

Individuals can participate in Dose Of Reality Week by taking the pledge to save lives by not sharing prescription painkillers, learning more about the risks and getting the facts about opioids. Other ways to prevent abuse and addiction are safely storing medications by locking them up/putting them out of reach of others, and properly disposing unwanted and unused medications during Wisconsin’s Drug Take Back Day.
