Board Approves Membership Renewals & Committee Appointments

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control approved action items and received customary Executive Staff and liaison reports at its September meeting today.
The Board voted to authorize the 2026-27 membership renewals for senior high schools and junior high schools, as well as appointments to the Coaches Advisory Committees, Conference Realignment Task Force, Calendar & Contact Ad Hoc Committee and Classification Committee. Other Board decisions included approval of the August financial statements and general fund payments, as well as the 2025-26 spring financial statements.
In other action, the Board approved a fast-track conference realignment plan that moves Gilman from the Cloverbelt Conference to the Lakeland Conference in all sports except football beginning in 2027-28.
Executive Staff reports to the Board included updates on continued efforts to recruit and retain licensed officials, enhancements to the newly developed Member Dashboard for schools on the WIAA website, preparations for the fall Tournament Series and the activities of the Student-Athlete Leadership Team.
The Board also received a review of the first four Area Meetings, which included summaries of the WIAA Foundation grants issued to member schools and Open Forum presentations by members advocating for the addition of girls flag football as a sanctioned sport.
Liaison reports were shared by Paul Manriquez of the Department of Public Instruction, Dan Rossmiller of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and Tara Rose of the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association. Andy Engel of the Hamilton Consulting Group also presented a report to the Board.
Driven by its vision of inspiring champions for life, the WIAA is a private, voluntary and unincorporated nonprofit organization as defined by its Constitution. The membership oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 516 senior high schools and 26 junior high/middle-level schools. The WIAA sponsors 30 State championship events for boys and girls.
