Brookfield East Captures Div. 1 Swimming & Diving Title; Osero Wins 4th Diving Crown

MADISON, Wis. – Brookfield East won the Division 1 team title by scoring 243 points at the 2019 State Girls Swimming and Diving Championships held Saturday at the UW Natatorium. 

It’s the first team title won by the Spartans. Arrowhead finished runner-up in the team standings by compiling 220 points, and Sun Prairie was third with 212.5 points.

Riley Tiltmann and Lucy Thomas won a pair of events to lead the Spartans to the championship. They both swam in 200-yard medley relay with teammates Abby Wanezek and Callie Gregg to finish in a State meet record time of 1:42.54. Tiltmann earned her second consecutive championship in the 100 backstroke, finishing in a time of 52.88. Thomas also won the 100 breaststroke in her first season with a time of 1:02.33.

Av Osero of Neenah becomes only the third diver in the history of the State meet to win four championships. She won the event with a score of 498.15. 

Sophie Fiske of Sun Prairie led all competitors with four State crowns in the meet. After finishing third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle in 2017, she has now won both the 50 and 100 freestyles for the second year in a row with times of 22.93 and 49.82, respectively. Fiske joined teammates Paige Rundahl, Hannah Marshall and Grace Sala to win the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:35.20, and she swam with Bree Moericke, Sala and Janelle Schulz to capture the 400 freestyle title in a time of 3:25.86. It is the second straight season Sun Prairie has won the relay.

Emma Lasecki of Bay Port celebrated a pair of championships, winning her second straight title in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:00.66, and breaking through after narrowly missing the gold in recent years in the 100 butterfly. She captured the gold medal in the event with a time of 54.21 after placing third last season, runner-up in 2017 and third in 2016. 

Abby Carlson of Waukesha South/Mukwonago was the champion in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.21, and Sydney Stoll of Arrowhead won the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:54.85 after placing 4th last season.
