State Girls Golf Completes Day 1; Day 2 to Begin with Shotgun Start at 9 a.m.

The first day of the State Girls Golf Tournament concluded Monday at University Ridge in Madison, Wis., with tomorrow’s action scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.

Kettle Moraine has the team lead after the first day of action with a five-player score of 318, which is 16 strokes ahead of Middleton, which scored 334 through 18 holes. Arrowhead is in third at 337.

Jo Baranczyk of Bay Port sits atop the individual leaderboard in Division 1. She shot an even-par 72 through 18 holes after placing in a tie for fifth last year. Rachel Kauflin of Wauwatosa East/West, Caylie Kotlowski of Stoughton and Emily Lauterbach of Arrowhead are tied for second, one stroke back at 73. Lauterbach finished third last year after winning medalist honors in 2016.

Edgewood tops the team standings in Division 2 with a five-player score of 333, which is 23 strokes better than second-place Xavier at 356. Hayward is a distant third with a team score of 400.

Annie Balduzzi Aquinas has a four-shot lead, shooting a 2-over-par 74. She placed sixth at last year’s State tournament after finishing fourth in 2016. Grace Welch of Edgewood, who placed fourth a year ago and third in 2016, and Clair Phakamad of Xavier are tied for second with a 78.

Because of the wet conditions and threat of thunderstorms, action will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start for both Division 1 and Division 2.
