Sportsmanship Plus - Boys Basketball

Turner @ Clinton
Dec. 28, 2017

My officiating partners and I would like to commend the Clinton boys basketball team and coaching staff for the way that they conducted themselves during this hard fought game. The coaching staff openly asked our officiating group questions regarding calls we had made. They were professional during each and every encounter, accepted our explanations and thanked us every time. The players did likewise. They played hard and were respectful throughout the course of the game. Clinton certainly proved to us that their coaching staff is teaching the right things and leading by example.  Well done!

The game was extremely well played. It was obvious that these teams were well-coached. The players were respectful throughout the game, and the coaches coached their team and handled all discussions with the officials in a professional manner. The fans cheered positively for their team. Sportsmanship was definitely observed and well appreciated.

We wanted to take this opportunity to expressway our appreciation to all members of both coaching staffs for their exceptional sportsmanship and high level of professionalism throughout the entirety of the game. Both coaching staffs placed a heavy emphasis on coaching their kids, which is to be commended. If there is a sportsmanship award, it should be given to Lomira and Cedar Grove-Belgium. We look forward to working at these schools in the future.

We were greeted by Athletic Director Dave Mueller. He was gracious to us showing us where our changing room was. As the game played on, both teams and coaches were outstanding in their behavior.  Each team treated each other, as well as us officials with great respect. After the game, we were greeted with post-game "nourishment" and thanked for the services we provided. Roncalli provided "winning" hospitality to us officials.

Upon entering the gym, we were welcomed by the host athletic director, Ms Olson. She directed us to our assigned locker room, and told us special events going on that night.  During the game, both coaches and players were very respectful of our crew.  The scoring table personal provided us with water that even had our names on them to identify whose was whose. At the conclusion of the game we were surprised to see some additional "nourishment" in the form of hot dogs and popcorn.  This was greatly appreciated from our crew and want to let the WIAA know of the great hospitatlity of the home team. The Oconto Falls coach thanked us for a good game despite being on the losing end of the game. We would like to thank all of these individuals for making this a enjoyable game to work and wish both teams the best of luck this season.
