Sportsmanship Plus - Football

Fox Valley Lutheran @ Denmark
Friday, Aug. 23, 2019

Both teams are to be commended for the show of sportsmanship throughout the game. Every individual involved, both players and coaches, are to be proud of how they performed during this game. Denmark coaching staff was exceptional to work with and their players were excellent to work with on the field. The Fox Valley coaching staff dealt with the one issue we had during the game and all players were great to work with. Best of luck to these two programs going forward this season.

Jefferson @ Big Foot
Aug. 23, 2019

Wonderful sportsmanship from both teams, and both sidelines were very professional. We had good feedback from either sideline if there was an issue. Its amazing how much fun it is when things go smoothly. I noticed players helping each other up after a play, usually with a pat on the back. Kids competed but respected each other. This was a great experience. The other noteworthy thing was the game was played at a neutral site because of the Big Foot's field was not yet finished as they were putting a new turf down. The host school was very accommodating (Delavan-Darian), It was a pretty good way to start out the season. Congratulations to both teams.

Seneca/Wauzeka-Steuben @ Highland
Aug. 23, 2019

What a great display of sportsmanship by both teams, as S-WS players and Highland players both were helping each other up off the field at the end of plays. There was no trach talking, only positive words of encouragement to each other. The coaches coached, the players played, and the fans cheered. Our crew never heard a complaint about any calls that were made. There was never any questioning of what took place when penalties were called, by players, coaches, or the fans. Truly a great night of what high school sports are all about. The communities of Seneca, Wauzeka, Steuben, and Highland can be proud of their coaches, players and fans doing an outstanding job of representing them. Keep up the good work S-WS and Highland!

Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas @ Gillett
Aug. 23, 2019

The contest was close for the first quarter and a half; however, the halftime differential ballooned to 20 points. You would never know that by the conduct and efforts of the coaching staffs and players. They continued to play and coach hard, during the second half while showing respect and good sportsmanship to their opponents. It was truly a pleasure to officiate a game between two such quality opponents who exhibited the qualities that all interscholastic teams should strive to attain. Hats off to both programs, their coaching staffs and players for their fine display of the essences of interscholastic athletics.

Oak Creek @ Kenosha Tremper
May 14, 2019

After a serious injury on the field occurred, the players on both squads were mindful of the seriousness of the situation and conducted themselves as would have been expected. Several players gravitated towards each other, the team jersey that they were wearing did not matter at that moment. It was in recognition that a fellow baseball player had been hurt, and although it is a competition, camaraderie amongst constituents of a game that they love. My hat is off to all those who recognized that another person was in need and to do "the right thing."

Menasha @ Xavier
May 2, 2019

For both programs, respect was noticeably one of the central values being taught in the classroom, at practice, and on game day. Menasha players Tristin DeBriyn and Jordan Nichols were true leaders on the field. Xavier’s Phil Lorge showed numerous positive acts of sportsmanship throughout the contest. I also wanted to emphasize the hustle aspect of both Kaiser VandeLoo of Menasha and Phil Lorge of Xavier. These two catchers really worked hard in their catching roles. I witnessed them picking up numerous bats, offering a kind word to an opponent for a good play, and moving bats for opponents during play to make sure the area around the plate was safe. Both the Menasha and Xavier school and community leadership should be proud of these young men, their coaches, and their parents for their excellent display of positive sportsmanship at an education based athletic event. Best of luck to both teams this season and keep up the great work!

General

In the past few seasons we as officials have heard a lot about the abuse we have received from coaches and fans. I would like to point out the sportsmanship of the players we officiate. The players are always cordial and appreciative of our efforts on the field. This is why we officiate, not for the coaches or fans, but for the players who can go out and enjoy playing the games they love. I cannot count over the past few seasons how many players have said "thanks blue" after our games. This why I will keep on officiating as long as I can.
