Four teams advance to Friday evening’s semifinals of the WIAA State Boys Hockey Tournament with quarterfinal victories Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

The Waukesha North co-op went to overtime to defeat Arrowhead 2-1 in its quarterfinal. The Wings scored on the power play to take a 1-0 lead in the second period following a scoreless first frame. The Warhawks rallied with a goal with just over seven minutes to play in the third period.

Benjamin Sorge netted the game-winner for the Wings at the 4:09 point of the extra period with assists from Wyatt and Garrett Wilderman.

Garrett Larson made 27 saves in goal for the Wings, and Peter Genatempo made 26 stops for the Warhawks.

The Wings will play Sun Prairie in one of the semifinals after the Cardinals edged Bay Port 3-2 in their quarterfinal match-up.

The Cardinals led 2-0 with a power-play goal in the first period and an even-strength goal 35 seconds into the second period. However, the Pirates scored a pair of power-play goals within the span of 43 seconds in the period to tie the game.

Sun Prairie’s Josh McCrary scored the game-winning goal in the third period on a power play with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation.

Sam Dunn made 37 saves for the Cardinals, and Riley Baye had 29 stops for the Pirates.

Last year’s runner-up Hudson advances to the semifinals with a 4-0 blanking of Eau Claire Memorial in their quarterfinal.

The Raiders scored the only goals they would need in the first period, scoring twice in a span of 2:18 midway through the period. They added goal in the second period and a short-handed score in the third to cap the victory.

Anthony Howard made 11 saves for the Raiders. Trevor Hudecek made 25 saves for the Old Abes. Nick Schultz contributed a pair of saves in relief of Hudecek.

The Raiders will play Wausau West in the semifinals Friday evening. The Warriors downed West Salem/Bangor 7-0.

Six different Warriors scored in the game. The first three goals were on the power play.  Wausau West was an efficient 3-for-5 in power plays for the game.

Leading 3-0 heading into the third period, the Warriors put the game away by scoring four times in the period.

Zach Pearson scored a pair of goals, getting the Warriors on the board in the first period and completing the scoring by notching the seventh goal with under two minutes to play in the game.

Ryan Raff collected 13 saves for the Warriors, and Mitch Hammes and Adam Helgeson combined to make 30 saves for the Panthers.

Play resumes Friday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum with the first of two girls semifinal games scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
