Q:  I have a player that has diabetes.  Last weekend our players did the JDRF walk at Warner Park for him.  His mother had some blue and gold towels made for the players & fans.  Can the players wear them in tonight's game on their belts?  They have writing on them?

A:  The rule is in the NFHS rule book and was a Point of Emphasis.  Towels are limited to being white with specific specifications on size.

P. 23 SECTION 5 PLAYER EQUIPMENT

5. Uniform adornments, with the exception of:
(a) One unmarked moisture-absorbing white towel, which shall be no less than 4 inches in width and 12 inches in length and no greater than 18 inches in width and 36 inches in length; or

P. 87  2012 POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Wearing Illegal Equipment/Adornments:
B. Wearing towels that exceed the allowed specifications – One, white, unmarked moisture-absorbing towel can be worn. Towel width is a minimum of 4 inches and maximum of 18 inches, while the length is a minimum of 12 inches and a maximum of 36 inches.

Best to use them on the sideline or wave them when your team enters the field since they are not allowed to be worn by the players during the game.
